God introduced me to a new book called Foxe’s Christian Martyrs and the author shares the stories of the persecution of the church since the very beginning after Jesus ascended to the heavens up until the 16th century. It has been encouraging reading of the many (named and unnamed) Christians who stood up and died horrible deaths for the gospel; against religiousness and traditions that weren’t biblical and made man believe they could save themselves.

I haven’t finished the book yet,but wait, what does this have to do with my sabbath today? Well, God refocused me on my sabbath today in practically seeing what a Spirit-led life looks like… especially on sabbath.

THE STORY OF TODAY

This
morning, I was enjoying my sabbath in bed, savoring the morning time
with no plans; no
responsibilities expect to find rest in God and meditate
on His
goodness. And at noon after eating a late breakfast,
I heard one of my team mates say,
we have company!

Religiousness came to my doorstep, and I opened the door for a few seconds, thinking:

“but this is my sabbath… and I dont want to feel like I have to host anyone right now…”

“this is my time to do what I believe is restful for me.”

But then I closed the door pretty hard when my teammate said the name of one of the girls. The thoughts disintegrated.

THE NIGHT BEFORE…

I was giving a lot of things to God in prayer and drawing and writing out the people and the things He had highlighted to me for this time here in Heidelberg. One of those people included the sweet girl who came by today.

COME ON GOD!!! An act of God, am I right?

I ran upstairs to change clothes, and I played volleyball with her and the other girls that came over, along with my squadmates. I said, ”wow, how kind of God to bring children to us on our day of rest!!!”

Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Until next time, read up on pt.2 “My Sabbath: restoration pt.2”,

With much love
